NLP: External Indicators for Rapport Building

Do you realize that you always communicating something even if you are not using words?

When you have well-developed sensory acuity, you are able to notice things that other people cannot notice, even the minutest shifts in a person’s external dispositions.

Even as you notice minute changes from moment to moment, you do not however give any meaning to these changes.

You just notice that something has gone on inside that person that has manifested itself into an external result.

Preferred Learning and Communication Styles

In the previous posting of this series “Why build Rapport”, we looked at the second part of “Eye-Movement Patterns”.

This posting will deal with the topic referred to in NLP as Preferred Representational Systems or Styles.

Simply put, which of the three main senses, visual, auditory or kinesthetic, do you prefer to use when you are learning and communicating?

Let me say at the outset, that you may be using any of the three at particular times, but there is one that you have a preference for.

You may prefer to listen to the 4.53 minute AUDIO.

Eye Movement Patterns – Part 1

The topics we have discussed so far in rapport building are:

1. Why build Rapport?
2. Sensory Acuity
3. Tonality Patterns

This posting will look at eye movement patterns, also called eye pattern movements, and will be divided into two Parts.

This is a very practical and immediate way of finding out whether the person you are communicating with is visual, auditory or kinesthetic in their preferred learning and communication style.

Tonality Patterns

Tonality in your conversation is actually worth 38% of the content of your message, and has a significant influence on the meaning of your communication and the reactions you will get.

It markedly affects how others will respond to your words and to your message.

What you desire, is that the response will be the one you want, isn’t it?

But there is no guarantee of that because people hear what they hear based on their past experiences.

They are selective of what they want to hear.

With this posting we will start on the various tools that go into building rapport.

The first one is to have sensory acuity.

What does that mean?

If you prefer, listen to the 4.48 minute AUDIO.  I’ve actually added some to the audio as sensory acuity is such a fun topic
